Ruth Malcomson, Miss Philadelphia, took the Miss America title in 1924. In it's infancy, the Miss America Pageant was sometimes called "The Atlantic City Pgeant" and Miss America herself was referred to as "The Golden Mermaid". Miss Malcomson appeared on the 1974 Miss America Pageant telecast, the 50th anniversary of her win. After winning Miss America in 1924, she had a list of ten rules for beauty:
